Happy Memorial Day! I hope you are celebrating and getting your taste buds ready for the first official BBQ of the season.

We hosted our annual Celebration of Life party over the weekend and is was a blast. This party takes a village to pull off because my hubby invites the whole wide world! No joke!
I was so busy entertaining that I didn’t have time to take pics but I have plenty from last year’s celebration, here. We hosted over sixty friends and with the help of our family, we were able to pull it off. In order to host this hungry bunch, we took the party to the porch and optimized our outdoor space. We used the large back patio/porch which we extended to add room for additional seating. Check out the patio video at the end of this post.

I spruced up our front porch to welcome our guest for under $25.00. Here are a few tips I used to create a come “sit a spell” moment and I hope you will be inspired to create a welcoming entry of your very own.

Tip Clean your porch/entry by removing all the debris from the winter months.

Tip Shop your home for yard art. (anything can be used as yard art) This table was used to wrap cable wire. a bunny from the back yard and a pot with faux flowers, decorate the table.

Tip Add lighting with a lamp and repurpose items like this rickety ladder adorned with collected items around the house.


Tip Create a seating area to lounge. You can find lawn furniture at thrift stores.

Tip Add an outdoor rug to soften the space. Thrift stores have rugs and since it will be going outside, there’s no worry of it needing to be spotless.

Tip Pot a few seasonal plants to mix with faux ones. I purchased hanging baskets and set them in urns. (I will remove the hanger later)

Tip Hang a wreath or welcome sign on the door.

Your entry is the first impression of your home so make it welcoming for your guest.
