Most designers hang their hats on the details when designing a space. Staple goods like sofas, dining tables and beds are the necessities to fill the practical areas in a room but then comes the makeup, jewelry and the little black dress aka the details.

Accessories play a big part in creating a space that is unforgettable. Last week, I shared our family vacation at Staley Mountain Ranch, a log cabin in the piney woods of Lake Livingston, TX. Just in case you missed part one, you can read about our fabulous stay, here.

Edith, the homeowner, designed the space to feel like home away from home. Adding simple touches of collected books nestled throughout the cabin and super comfortable beds dressed in crisp linens and layered with fluffy summer blankets, was all it took to create a resting haven for snuggling and watching movies.

Cookbooks hung out in the fully stocked kitchen and comfortable seating for a clan was sprinkled inside and on the wrap around porches, beckoning for and afternoon nap.

All these details made me want to come home and add some special touches to my guest bedroom. I’ll be sharing my refresh with you in a future post but here are a few ideas:
Add a couple pieces of really good chocolate for a night cap.
Find a good old mystery novel for night time reading.
If your guest arrive in the evening, prepare the bed with turn down service and a bottle of iced mineral water.

With all this five star treatment, your guest may want to move in and that’s the feeling you want them to have when they leave.

Until next time,

Enjoy!
