The combination of chocolate and peanut butter has to be the best pairing of any two ingredients on earth. Reese’s may have the patent on this blissful marriage but I’ve found a recipe that will give those peanut butter cups a run for their money. Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars.

#chocolate chip peanut butter bars

This recipe is Trisha Yearwood Butterscotch Peanut Butter Bars found on The Food Network and you can find the recipe here. My preference is chocolate so I substituted the butterscotch chips for chocolate chips and that had my taste buds jumping for joy when I took my first bite. These bars are so sinful, I took them to work and spread a little sin, oops… I mean love all over the office.

Enjoy,

MJ

Ingredients:
• 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, room temperature, plus more for greasing
• 1/2 cup granulated sugar
• 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
• 1/2 cup plus 1/4 cup creamy peanut butter
• 1 large egg
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1 cup all-purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 1/2 cup quick-cooking oatmeal
• 6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips (about 1 cup)
• 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
• 4 tablespoons milk
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter.
Combine butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and 1/2 cup of the peanut butter in a mixing bowl and cream until well blended. Add the egg and vanilla. Sift the flour with the baking soda and the salt. Mix the oatmeal into the flour and stir the flour into the creamed mixture. Spread the batter in the baking pan with your hands. Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the batter and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until browned around the edges. Combine confectioners sugar, milk and 1/4 cup of peanut butter in a separate bowl. Mix well, pour over bars and let completely cool. Cut bars to serve.
