Let me start by saying this road trip did not get off to a smooth start. I set the alarm for 4:45; it went off at 6:00(the normal daily setting) our plan was to be on the road by 5:30a. Turns out, I set the alarm for 4:45p.m. Now I’m in rush mode. I’m Donald’s human alarm clock so I started calling his name softly and ended in a full crescendo. I rushed around the house like a tornado, grabbing my essentials and throwing them in the car. I went to check on Donald’s progress and found him taking advantage of the snooze button. He was still calling the cow’s home. Needless to say my temperature gauge escalated instantly and to add to my anxiety, Aaron didn’t come home to pet sit Queen Cleo which squashed any comfort I had leaving my little girl at home. My body screamed for my morning cup of coffee and I responded by pouring a cup and taking a squat on the sofa to watch Donald humming his favorite tune while he casually gathered his belongings for the ride.

How do you think my face looks about now? I certainly couldn’t win a beauty contest. We pulled out of the driveway at 8:05 headed to the biggest antique fair in Texas. Thirty miles out, Donald informs me he needs a bathroom break and some breakfast and I’m on the phone with our insurance company confirming that the new car we’ve been driving for the past three months had never been insured or added to our policy. Good lord, I needed a chill pill and you need some pics to continue reading this saga. For those of you who love collecting blue and white, this was the ultimate place to find that unique piece to add to your collection.

Our first stop…was not a real stop; instead we exited then hopped back on the highway because we realized the exit to the Jack In The Box was the prior exit. Ditto on the next exit once we saw the gas station up close, we thought we better keep driving for cleaner facilities. The third try was almost a charm and there was a Golden Chick restaurant attached. Like I said, it was almost a charm until we found out Golden Chick didn’t open until 10:00 We satisfied our bathroom needs and lucky for me, We didn’t pull off before I remembered I’d left both my cell phones in the bathroom. Back on the road again and still three hours from our destination, Donald had one thing on his mind and it wasn’t getting to Round Top on my time clock. He was dead set on getting a sausage and egg biscuit from Jack In The Box. I was given specific instructions to keep my eyes peeled for a JITB sign and I resolve to the fact that until I fed this man, I was not going to see Round Top, Texas before mid-night. I spotted a JITB sign and it was like Christmas morning that’s when I started humming my favorite tune. The sweet lady at the window had a dip of snuff in her mouth. Only in the south can you get away with dipping on the job. I won’t even bother to share how many more stops we made before arriving in Round Top. Once we heard from Aaron, I sat back and enjoyed the ride. #antique dough bowl

The drive was beautiful. The country roads were lined with fields of Bluebonnets, the sky was blue, the sun was bright and the temperature was 70 degrees. It was a perfect day for a road trip. We turned down the 25 mile stretch of antiques paradise and found hundreds of tents filled with venders lining the road. We stopped dead in our tracks, parked and I didn’t even wait for Donald. I headed in the direction of the vintage signs calling my name. This was our first stop. I shopped for two hours and it felt like 20 minutes. So many beautiful things. Honestly, it was overwhelming to say the least. I do have to warn you, the prices are stout but if you are a bargain shopper, you will find some treasures. I will share my great finds with you later this week along with chapter two of our road trip adventure.
