Celebration of Life 2015 004
I hope you have exciting plans for this extended weekend. Memorial Day is the un-official first holiday of the summer season. It is also a very special holiday for our family. Eight years ago my hubby was diagnosed with throat cancer. We had just moved into our dream home three months prior to this totally unexpected news. We were overwhelmed with sadness at the thought of how this journey would change our lives. So many family and friends came to our aid including our new neighbors who really didn’t know us. The blessings just kept pouring in as we continued to battle this awful disease. Soon after the rigorous treatment plan of chemo and radiation, Donald became too ill to continue working. The doubt and fear creeped in our thoughts like, would we be able to keep our home, will the medical insurance pay the astronomical bills, and will Donald be victorious in his battle. We continued to be prayerful even though we knew this additional strain would be difficult. Those who knew our struggle, continued to pray and reach out to us by providing physical, emotional and financial love. After nine months of treatment, we received the news that the cancer was in remission. We knew we had been blessed and wanted to share in our joy, so we decided what better way to celebrate than to throw a big old fashion southern party to celebrate this new lease on life. This is our 7th annual Celebration of Life and it is a true testimony of what God can do because you see; the cancer returned last November and Donald has been receiving treatment since then. Two weeks ago, we received the report from his amazing team of doctors, “the cancer is in remission again.” Ain’t God Good!!! I’m sharing this very personal story with you because I think of you as my family and I want you to know that our journey is like so many others and even though most of my post are positive (which is how I choose to share with my readers) I’m just an everyday girl with everyday trials and triumphs. This weekend marks our 7th annual Celebration. I hope your holiday is a Celebration of your life and a beautiful time with family and friends.
