#goldleaftray
Hey friends, I’m so thrilled it’s Thursday and I’m even more thrilled that you joined me today for a blog hop being hosted by my beautiful friend, Jamala at Viva La Vintage For Your Home.

When Jamala, asked me to participate in this gold leaf blog hop, the first thing I did was ask my #knowitall friend, Google “what is gold leaf?” I’ve seen gold leaf items before but I just figured you leave this labor intensive job to the experts. Once I did a little research, I got a boost of confidence that I might just pull this gold leaf thing off (especially after saying yes to Jamala). Since this was my first attempt at a gold leaf project, I knew my item had to be small and budget friendly.

I headed to my local thrift store and found these gorgeous crystal cordial glasses then, another stop at Hobby Lobby to get my supplies and since I was right next door to Home Goods, I knew a quick peek inside was a given. I always head to the clearance section before I browse the store and when I spotted this silver tray with the gold leaf handles, I grabbed it with my greedy little paws then squealed when I turned it over and read the $14 red tag.

I cleaned the gold leaf areas with alcohol then I started applying the glue, one glass at a time.

I followed the directions on the gold leaf package “almost to a T” Once the glue was dry enough, based on the directions and me being impatient, I started applying the gold leaf and before I knew it, it was raining gold leaf flakes. The one thing I learned from this project is patience (not my strong suit). You have to take your time when handling gold leaf. I finally got the hang of it and before long I had the glasses completed.

The leaves on the tray are gold but the gold is lighter than the gold leaf so I added some to the stem and middle vein of the leaf. I love my gold leaf tray and crystal glasses.
