When I think of the holidays, it’s all about the food, family and friends…in that order! My memories of Thanksgiving is a home filled with love, loud voices and homemade must have favorites from the kitchen. Sweet Potato Pie has been a tradition in my family for generations so Thanksgiving would not be Thanksgiving without this decadent spiced-infused southern beauty.

Patti LaBelle, move over, I know your store bought pie is flying off the shelves and kudos to you. I’ve had one and it will do in a crunch but when it comes to the holidays, I want Sweet Potato Pie from scratch…period! The key to the “Best” Sweet Potato Pie is this recipe and your taste buds. I hope you will try my recipe and let me know what you think. Homemade crust is best but a readymade pie crust is fine.

Best Sweet Potato Pie Ever!

Ingredients

  • 3 large sweet potatoes
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups butter
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1tsp. vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, boil potatoes, skin on until tender. Drain and let cool for a few minutes. Peel potatoes being careful not to burn your fingers because the potatoes are still hot. Place peeled potatoes in a large bowl. Add the remaining ingredients. Beat with mixer until smooth and creamy. Remove strains of the potatoes from the beaters and discard. Pour mixture into an unbaked pie shell and bake on 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until the middle of the pie is firm. Cool completely on wire rack.
