You know how that old saying goes “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure!” Well, I’m a strong believer in this phrase and it appears I have company with everyone on social media passing out tips on re-purposing, sanding, painting and dumpster diving.

I admit, I’m that crazy woman driving below the speed limit, in the car in front of you with my bargain radar on for that one of a kind treasure. This behavior would be no different back in the fall when I spotted this solid oak table turned upside down on the back of a trash truck.

After closer inspection, I discovered the table had been poorly misused but under all the abuse was a table with great bones, solid oak wood and a collectible. I knew it would be perfect in the fellowship hall of our church and with a good cleaning, paint and elbow grease, I could bring it back to life, again. After scoring it for $24.00, I hauled it inside the church for it’s transformation.

I knew I would have to paint the table because the top was in such bad shape and I wanted to keep the expense down. My favorite paint is Velvet Finishes! I have used this paint on my last two projects here and here and I absolutely love this paint.

(Velvet Finishes provided me with free product for this post but all opinions, images and thoughts are my own. I have also added affiliate links for your convenience. This means, if you purchase Velvet Finishes, I will make a small commission but at no additional cost to you.” The coverage is unbelievable and you don’t have to sand or clean before applying the 3 step process. I cleaned this table because it came off a trash truck and would be used for food items. After giving the table a good warm water and soap bath, I dried it immediately. Then I applied the first step of Velvet Finishes, “Ready” and rubbed it over the table. This step prepares the surface to receive the paint.

Next, I slapped the “Paint” on with a brush with no rhyme or reason. It’s just that simple! I used the color Timeless. I allowed the first coat to dry which took no time at all then applied the second coat. The top of this table was in horrible shape so a second coat was a must. I allowed the second coat to dry overnight. The next day, I applied the final step “Protect” which seals the paint and gives your project a beautiful shine.

I left parts of the gorgeous solid oak wood to give homage to the tables original roots.

I think it is soooo “Timeless!” When is the last time you’ve turned a piece of trash into a treasure?
