My Windows Got Crowned

Oops!!! Let’s try this post again. While I was writing the post, I clicked published before the post was ready to go live and you should have seen me trying to scramble to retract it. Nooooo! no spell check, no editing, no images…so here goes again.

This past December marked our 8th year in our dream home. I can’t believe it’s been eight whole years since we sold our first home we lived in for 23yrs, rented a friend’s townhouse, then got evicted because the homeowner wasn’t paying the mortgage, taken in by friend’s who rescued us from a short stint of being homeless and finally, the day we took possession of the keys.

I say over and over again, our home is a blessing in so many ways and we are thankful that we get to enjoy it everyday with friends and family. Eight years is a long time to have a wall of windows in the main part of your home with no icing on the cake! Bare as the day we moved in. Even with the winter wonderland from winters past, I knew the windows needed some love.

The good thing is that we don’t have neighbors in the back so our nondescript windows with no privacy was the norm.

It took me this long to decided what I wanted for window treatments. I went back and forth with curtains, then blinds, then draperies…and the always present fund availability issue. Last summer, I went to visit my friend for the weekend and gasp when I saw her recently installed custom shutters and that’s when the moon and stars aligned with my pocketbook! I wanted to shout, instead, I returned home and scheduled a consultation with a plantation shutter specialist.

It took about five weeks for the shutters to arrive for installation but when they were finished I was so pleased. I had the shutters installed in the living aka dining, sitting area and kitchen.

I love how they are adjustable at the touch of the hand and they open to allow more light and a full view of the patio and forest.
