Have you wondered why I have that cute little pineapple as part of my logo? Well, here’s the story behind that slanted green object. The pineapple originated from the Caribbean and arrived in Europe in 1493 with Christopher Columbus upon his return from the island of what is now known as Guadalupe. Didn’t know I was a history buff huh?

To the Caribbean’s, the pineapple was a symbol of hospitality and that’s the feeling I try to create for my readers. Sharing ideas and encouraging my readers to open their hearts, homes and horizons to the joy of hospitality. When ripe, this succulent fruit is sweet and juicy and I’d like to think that’s what the Spaniards felt when they adopted the pineapple as a sign of welcome and kindness. The symbolism spread to Europe then to Colonial North America where it became custom to carve the shape of pineapples in the columns at the entrance to a plantation, furniture and signs. Lucky for us, this fruit at one time was considered an expensive delicacy due to the difficulty in importing it from the West Indies. Now, we can find pineapple on every fruit aisle in any market in the country. I have this handy little gadget from Pampered Chef which allows me to cut and serve my pineapple in a flash. Make a pretty display by placing the top of the pineapple on the plate right along with the fruit
Enjoy,
MJ
