I was first introduced to dates back in college umpteen years ago. My international friends threw parties all the time and prepared dishes from their homeland. I got to sample food from all over the world and these experiences added to my love of food.
I hung out in their kitchens and watched them create exotic dishes with spices and ingredients I’d never tried or heard of for that matter. I picked up a few tips on how to prepare some of the best food I’ve ever tasted. I’ve always been a foodie and my palate is universal so I am no stranger to trying different cuisines. Dates are extremely sweet but paired with savory ingredients, dates are a delightful fruit. I made these appetizers during the holidays and they were a huge hit.
At first, my guest were skeptical and some asked “what are dates and what do they taste like?” All I could say is try one and if you don’t like it, at least you’ll know. I was secretly hoping they didn’t like them so I could have some leftovers but no such luck. These bacon wrapped dates make great tailgate grub as well as fancy finger food for a soiree.
Until next time,
Enjoy!
