Summer will soon be over, the kids are cramming their backpacks with school supplies and you feel like “I just need one more relaxing get-a-way before all the hustle and bustle begins!” Why not load up the car for a road trip to Galveston, TX?
For those of you who live a few hours away, Galveston Island is one of my favorite destinations when you are on a budget but still want the beach feel! With a tank of gas, a cooler loaded with chicken salad sandwiches, chips, drinks and snacks, you’ll be walking on the beach in no time. On our last

Road trip to East Texas, we visited my niece and her family in Houston and decided to spend a day in Galveston. A walk on the beach and watching the seagulls hover over the ocean, was exactly what we needed to get our feel for the relaxing sounds of the beach.

Galveston has several budget friendly hotels and very affordable VRBO locations. Check out this seaside villa which sleeps up to 12.

We love seafood so we stopped at the first sign of surf and turf we spotted, Fish Tales Seafood.

This restaurant is  located on the seawall, directly across the street from Pleasure Pier. The food was good and a great location to view the beach from the balcony but on the pricey side.

I recommend Soul 2 Soul restaurant, a local favorite dive.

The food is delicious and cheap. Please note they are only opened Monday-Friday 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Eating and hanging out on the beach is the best way to enjoy Galveston and still stay within your budget.

Until next time,

Enjoy!
