I am so excited about my new series on entertaining. I will share my love for gatherings in a relaxed atmosphere where memories are made and the joy of good conversation and laughter is guaranteed. There is no reason to shy away from entertaining because we should never make any excuses for sharing the art of hospitality. Examples would be (my house is too small, I don’t know how to cook, it’s too much work, everything has to be perfect, etc.)

Entertaining can be as simple as setting out a tray of cheese, crackers, fruit and a beverage; to a sit down dinner with several courses. Remember, most folks are honored to be invited to your home because it says you care about them and that alone is enough inspiration to open your heart and home to others. I hope you will be inspired to shake off the “no ways “and bring on the “yes I cans” with my tips on easy entertaining. This first segment is a tablescape for a dinner party I hosted. I wanted a romantic setting since it was a Valentine’s Day couple’s dinner, so I piled on the romance with reds, pinks, flowers and fire.

Tip-Buy flowers from the grocery store. Place them in jars, drinking glasses or whatever you have on hand.

Tip-Use a piece of material, throw or scarves to create a background for a centerpiece. Keep items in the center low so conversation can flow easily.
Tip-Set your table with mix matched dinnerware. The new rule is nothing has to match. Use what you have.
Tip-Add candles and lower the lights for a romantic setting.

Tip-Serve simple foods, dishes that you are comfortable preparing or takeout that’s really good. Transfer takeout to your serving dishes for a down home feel.

Tip-Serve one alcoholic and one nonalcoholic beverage.

Tip-When guest ask what they can help with, let them, it makes them feel included and less stress on you.

Tip-Set your table a day early. Add the flowers on the day of the gathering.

Tip-Never make any excuses if you don’t have something your guest may request. Simply say no, and move on.

Enjoy,
