That’s the name I’ve given to Judie Byrd, cooking teacher, author, speaker and the co-founder of The Culinary School of Fort Worth. Lucky me, I had the pleasure of being invited to one of her “in home” parties and I’m still drooling over her cooks, dream kitchen and pool size Island for conjuring up all sorts of yummy goodness. Now don’t be jealous because I’m going to share every little detail, so grab a cup of tea and join the party.
As I approached the house I could hear that all too familiar sound of ladies buzzing around a boutique full of bargains. My blood pressure lowered and my retail therapy kicked in when I entered a room full of designer pocket books, wallets, jewelry, wall to wall fashions and accessories.
Then I turned the corner and there it was, a kitchen to die for and Judie, standing behind the island rolling out bread dough while entertaining a room full of aspiring cooks.
There were all sorts of snicky- snacks to munch on including Judie’s moist Pumpkin bread, Caramelized Onion Dip and a mix called Who Hash. I will be sharing Judie’s recipes in future blogs so you can add them to your recipe box.
Judy let me follow her into her master bedroom, I mean pantry, but it sure felt like a large master. The pantry was stocked with dishes, serving pieces and lots of candy. Judie said the pantry is her grandkids favorite room in the house.
Back to that dream kitchen I mentioned earlier and the glass front cabinets filled with colorful Fiesta and collectibles, oh so pretty.
There were lots of door prizes and of course I won this scrumptious cake made by Judie.
I was so busy taking in Judie’s style of decorating that I was shocked I remembered to take pictures for the blog. Look at this idea I stole right away, teacups in a glass bowl, just darling. There were so many details I loved about Judie’s decorating and I will be duplicating some of them in my home. She even had a bit of French flare with the inscription on her mantle.
I met some super sweet ladies including Tareka Lofton, pastry chef with loft 22 and her mother. June Naylor, dining critic, cookbook author and food/travel journalist for Texas Toast Culinary Tours and 360 West Magazine. Judie was such a gracious host and this lady knows how to throw a party by adding food, wine, shopping and a bunch of rowdy women enjoying each other in a relaxed setting. Thanks, Judie for kicking my Christmas party season off with a bang.
Enjoy,
MJ
