Hearts opened up around the world on Mother’s Day with an out pour of love, gratitude and appreciation for the women who provided our initial shelter. I loved reading all the well wishes plastered over the WWW and I hope plenty of these wishes came your way. I pulled out my “mama box” filled with years of artwork and cards from my son. The backwards letters and stick depictions of me are priceless.

Since I was in the mood for pulling out treasures I peeked inside my Thrifting Treasure Chest and found my latest love and finds to share with you. I know I’m late to the ironstone party but I’ve arrived and I’m off to a good start.

Wikipedia-Ironstone china, ironstone ware or most commonly just ironstone, is a type of vitreous pottery first made in the United Kingdom in the early 19th century. It is often classed as earthenware although in appearance and properties it is similar to fine stoneware. It was developed in the 19th century by potters in Staffordshire, England as a cheaper, mass-produced alternative for porcelain. There is no iron in ironstone; its name is derived from its notable strength and durability.

As much as I adore vintage collectibles, I should be ashamed of myself for not hoarding more of these cute ironstone pitchers! I use them to serve milk, juice, syrup, cream and they are great to use as a vase for flowers.

There are so many endless possibilities and when they are not in use, they make a pretty collection grouped together. If you see ironstone for under $5 bucks don’t hem and haw around like I do when I’m being cheap. Ironstone is getting pricer and harder to find since it is a hot commodity for farmhouse decor.

My last few trips to Goodwill has me thinking maybe I need to stop bragging on their bargains because they’ve been reading my post and increasing their prices on donated items!!!

I was able to find this silver plated basket for $4.99 #thatstoomuch but it is so “stinkin” cute I couldn’t pass it up.
