I’ve always dreamed of having a huge wrap around southern porch with a swing and planters of ferns dangling from the eaves. You know the kind of porch where you stretch out on a secondhand sofa and take an afternoon nap. My front porch is not the porch of my dreams but I love every minute I spend sipping on lemonade and listening to the birds singing through the knockout roses.

I’ve made two sitting areas on my porch, one tucked over in a secret corner and the other located front as center when you come up on the porch. I’m so thankful our porch is covered so when the spring showers come, we can still sit out and enjoy the melody of the raindrops.

I freshened up the area by updating the front door basket and adding a couple of planters with new spring floral stems from Hobby Lobby.

Tip: Hobby Lobby has a 50% off sale every other week on their silk stems and they have beautiful “real” looking flowers to give your arrangements a fresh look.

I tossed my faded cushions and replaced them with budget friendly ones from Big Lots and Walmart. I like to change out my cushions every three to four years when I see signs of wear and drab looking colors and since cushions are a cost effective way to update a space, it’s well worth the few bucks.

You’ll find lots of vintage flare on my porch and I cannot get enough of these rusty motel chairs. Every time I see one at antique stores, I cringe at the price. These chairs were a dime a dozen when I was growing up and came in different styles. Perhaps one day I will pull out my paint brush and give these comfy ladies a facelift,  for now, I’m enjoying their comfort and age spots.

I added this cute sign and topiary and I just love how cute they look on the porch. I scored this lamp from Goodwill for FREE! Yep, I had a stamp card filled up so I used it towards the purchase of this lamp and still had a few bucks left over.

This old ladder is still hanging out on my porch and I gave it some character by painting “Welcome” on the side rail. Now my guest will feel welcome to sit a spell or come on in. It doesn’t take a lot of money to create an outdoor space you and your family will enjoy.

Add a few spring/summer touches to nature for an outdoor space you won’t want to leave.
