Hey Y’all, I hope you had a marvelous weekend. We were elated here in the DFW area because we had a magnificent sunny day with a cool breeze after weeks and weeks of rain. We were seriously contemplating purchasing a boat just to get around town. Well, I’m exaggerating on the boat thing but truly we have had plenty of rainfall and some serious fatal incidents. Our prayers were answered on Sunday morning with glorious blue skies and sun to quench our skin after much needed vitamin D. I know the mosquitoes have been multiplying by the thousands to feast on us this summer but I mentioned that I had a plan to keep them at bay here and they finally arrived and got installed just in time. I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to share my back porch aka veranda with you today with the installation of my plan.

I love being outside even more than inside. It’s my time to connect with nature, enjoy the beauty God created and chill on my childhood sofa. This sofa belonged to my Mama and has held up through seven kids jumping on it. Now it sits on my porch and I lounge on its sturdy frame, daily. I had it re-upholstered in outdoor fabric and it’s holding up nicely. Since there is little sun on the covered part of the porch, my furniture has a reprieve from the scorching Texas sun.
There’s my little girl photo bombing again. Queen Cleo reigns everywhere in our home. We added on to the porch since we love entertaining and wanted a bit more space to house the dining set and Donald’s grill. Now we have ample room for lots of backyard partying. I also planted flowers to soften the concrete hardscape and they are starting to bloom.


This screen came from my childhood home. It was the screen to the door of my daddy’s barber shop located at the back of the house.


I found this vintage fan blade while I was browsing one of my favorite dives. It came from an old gym somewhere around these parts.

Our latest add to the porch are these remote controlled screens, they are my mosquito blockers and they are Wonnnnderful! I just push a button and the screens let up and down and can be programmed to stop at any level. All I do is close them, spray some bug killer and within minutes, I can return to enjoy a bug free space, outdoors.

Having a screened porch is a southern thing and we love our screened porches. The weatherman has predicted a few more days of sunshine for us and that means lots of back porch living.
